Local OS maps, tourist brochures and leaflets are available at the cottage.
You may wish to plan your activities ahead of your visit, and we hope some of this information is of interest.
Broads
The Broads National Park is all around you. There are many points of special interest. We suggest you follow the links below for more information.
Beaches
Beautiful sandy beaches are within a few miles of the cottage. We recommend Winterton, Horesey or Sea Palling, for lovely golden sand and not too many tourists.
Watersports
There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, etc. Follow the links below for more information.
Nature reserves and walking
There is excellent birdwatching to be had in the Broads area, as well as many nature reserves to visit. OS maps are in the cottage for you to plan some walking in the area. The ancient Weaver's Way passes behind the cottage.
National Trust
The NT owns large parts of the coast and marshland around Norfolk. We recommend a visit to Blackney Point Nature Reserve. Two excellent stately homes are well within reach, Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall, and are worth a visit. The Windpump at Horsey is just minutes away. A NT handbook is in the cottage for details.
Museums
This part of Norfolk is well served by museums of interest, details in the link below.
Villages
The two nearest villages are Potter Heigham and Martham. Both have shops and pubs. Martham has a post office, doctor's surgery, chemist, fish and chip shop, Chinese take-away and some general stores. Potter Heigham also has an excellent fish and chip shop close to the river, and Lathams, a large sell-everything store, is an experience not to be missed! It also has a suprisingly good bakerery at the front and of course a well-stocked fishing tackle department.
Towns and city
The seaside resort of Great Yarmouth is 10 miles away and will provide all the "kiss-me-quick" delights of a British holiday you could possibly want. However, also affords some fascinating history of seafaring and the herring industry; we particularly recommend the award-winning Tide and Time Museum and the Nelson Museum.
Norwich is 15 miles away, is packed with things to do and is also an excellent shopping experience! All the usual department stores, but also cobbled alleyways full of independent shops.
